Fine leather binding, bound in blue morocco with hand tooled gilt decoration to front boards and spine, five raised spine bands, front board has seal of Chaote School, some rubbing wear to gilting of seal, with latin phrase " SIGILUM SCHOLAE CHOATIENSIS IN NOVA ANG MDCCCXCVI". Extremely rare custom bound presentation copy from the school has inscription to front flyleaf "For Excellence/ In Junior Athletics/ 1949".Choate school bookplate with previous owner's signature to front pastedown endpaper. Gilt topedege, wonderful marbled endpapers. Clean unmarked text has some faint staining under the inscription on the front flyeaf and very slight discoloration to map of North America on page 372, and a dampstain on the fore & bottom edge (see photos). Very good hardcover, no dustjacket. Illustrated from photographs, plates, line drawings, maps.
