Original concept artwork by Marc Davis for the character design of Maleficent also depicts a similar pose. The base of the staff is metal and includes a single Christmas light bulb, wired to a battery pack on the underside of the base which requires two (2) AA batteries. The top of the staff is threaded, and accepts the threaded base of the orb, which has Diablo mounted on top. Once assembled, the orb lights up and is operated by a switch located on the right side of the base.
