An inviting image of historic landmark, "The Big Spring, Thermopolis, Wyo" is depicted. In this early and rare hand tinted photographic image.
The Big Spring is located in Hot Springs State Park, Wyoming. The turquoise and green mineral laden spring produces 3.6 million gallons of water per day at a scorching 127 degrees. The water contains at least 27 different minerals and feeds all of the attractions within the park. The healing waters of the area's mineral springs are said to have attracted dinosaurs, prehistoric migratory people, Native American tribes, Western settlers and now travelers crossing Wyoming. Native Americans believed the water contained therapeutic power. In the early 20th century a sizeable medical community formed in Thermopolis, centered around the hot springs in hopes the water would restore health. Today you can still visit the State Bath House in the state park free of charge. The small-size image was hand tinted with cool blues and greens, which is slightly deceiving by the temperature of the water, although you can see the steam. The bottom has studio printed title, "The Big Spring, Thermopolis, Wyo". Also above that is another faint title, which I believe may be a misprint or information that did not print well.
