Every now and then a one-of-a-kind beauty becomes available... Or a show-stopping ultra-rare steps out of the crowd... Shells that take your breath away and are a joy to own.. Cypraea fultoni massieri #4 69.3mm, Lorenz 1991, BIG RARE BEAUTY from Mozambique.
Collected by trawling in 45-75 meters of water off of Mozambique. It seems that there are 4 definite variations of the fultoni cowrie--- fultoni fultoni, fultoni deltoidea, fultoni amorimi, and fultoni massieri. As the comparison photos show, the fultoni massieri is dramatically different from the fultoni fultoni, both in size, shape, teeth, terminals, location where found, and surprisingly, the dorsum. The fultoni fultoni typically has a glossy shine to its dorsum, where the massieri, (typically rostrated) has a more silky shine. Oh, and the cream-colored area on the top the dorsum is a typical feature of the massieri, a feature that sets off the shell's special pattern beautifully! Okay, it takes a bit of imagination to see it, but... Anyhow, without a doubt, this is a rare, seldom offered beauty that will look terrific sitting on your shelf!
