Shows all typical signs of field wear, however best part of the hat is the embroidery - done in the expected style'ILLINIOS' (poorly spelt'ILLINOIS') on one side of the brim, and'QUANG-TRI 70-71' on the other. This refers to Recon Team Illinois, based out of Quang-Tri province in 1970-71. Recon teams were highly skilled special operations operators, who formed small teams, generally with two to three Caucasion Special Forces American Soldiers, with 4 to 7 indigenous (Often Montagnard or Hmong) troops who would be dropped in North Vietnam, Laos, or other,'hot' places to draw out the enemy. Items to these teams are extremely hard to find. Generally - if you see it - its faked.
I have owned this for a long time - I think I picked it up on one of my many trips to the US. Pease be aware of the misspelling of'Illinois' as'Illinios' - not particularly surprising nor concerning. These 60s date boonies in good sizes such as this (7 and 1/8) are hard enough to get.
This one is a real find! You are far more likely to find new ones which may or may not be real, than actual field worn items. Not mucked around with at all. Item located in East Malvern.
